Review: Drag Show The Game Show at The Gold Digger

Reviewed by Tatum Stafford

‘Drag Show The Game Show’ is chaotic, hilarious, dirty and fun – and really, what more could you want from a Fringe show?

The show is presented by two thirds of The Beastie Girls, Zelda Moon and Lazy Susan, as well as Dandrognyy; three Melbourne drag queens who are clearly at the top of their game.

As we were ushered into the big Gold Digger tent, there was a gamesheet on each of our seats and we were split into team Zelda Moon or team Dandrogyny. Lazy Susan sauntered onto the stage in a gorgeous corseted yellow tracksuit (yes you read that right), and it was clear we were in safe hands. She was a commanding and hilarious emcee for the evening, and quickly laid out the ground rules before the two other queens were introduced.

The concept of the show is simple; it’s two drag queens and audience teams going head to head in a traditional game show format, with a few draggy twists. Each round involved references to drag, and without giving too much away, it was a game show filled with reading challenges, lip syncing, trauma mining and plenty of chances for the audience to get in on the action.

The 80 minutes absolutely flew by as the audience watched the game show unfold. It was a really clever concept, and something that has a lot of longevity for drag fans and newbies alike.

Each queen was incredibly captivating and had great rapport with the audience, which was such a pleasure to watch unfold. Big props also to the tech team in the tent, who really nailed the dramatic lighting as each round kicked off.

This was such a fun night of entertainment, and I’d highly recommend snapping up a ticket to get in on the fun.
