Review: Briefs: Dirty Laundry at L’Euro Grande

Review by Tatum Stafford

Perth Fringe favourites Briefs are back with a vengeance in 2024. They’ve taken over the 7pm timeslot at brand-new Fringe hub L’Euro Grande, and if Sunday night’s enthusiastic audience is anything to go by, they’re clearly making a splash and a lot of fans.

This show, Dirty Laundry, is an encore performance of their 2023 Fringe season, which completely sold out. I wasn’t able to nab a ticket to see them last year, but having seen them at previous festivals, I jumped at the chance to catch Dirty Laundry and was very glad I did.

The Briefs boys, led by Fez Faanana aka Shivanana, are an absolute riot on stage. This show was full of surprises, and showcased every cast member’s unique talents with plenty of variety, booming music, and gorgeous costumes. Fez is a natural on the mic, and gave the show plenty of momentum and whip-smart comedy.

Thomas Worrell was a clear crowd favourite, wowing the audience with impossibly fast spinning at the end of his impressive acrobatic aerial routine. Serenity (circus artist Dylan Rodriguez) was another knockout performer in the air, and without giving too much away, they likely had the most memorable conclusion to any other number on the night.

Briefs favourites Dale Woodridge-Brown and Mark “Captain Kidd” Winmill were on fire, flashing plenty of hilarious facials at the audience at any given moment (and particularly in otherwise sultry group routines). Nastia (Luke Hubbard)’s gymnastics routine was equal parts jaw-dropping and hilarious, and Louis Biggs brought plenty of laughs with his energetic number.

If you haven’t seen Briefs live, Dirty Laundry is the perfect sampler for what these cheeky and ultra-talented performers have to offer. The venue is perfect for the crowd-pleasing group, and it was such a treat to see them back in Perth in full force.
