Review by Tatum Stafford
The Voodoo Rooms’ Ballroom is the perfect venue for a fun throwback look at some of Tarantino’s greatest movies and greatest movie moments – expertly mixed both visually and on screen by renowned DJ Yoda.
The show features an hour of recaps of Tarantino movies, as well as a few humorous montages about some of Tarantino’s hallmarks, including feet (yes, feet), blood, fights and iconic dance moves.
DJ Yoda struck a great mix between these films’ iconic soundtracks and sound effects to finding unique songs that relate to movie plots, which made for really fun and unexpected viewing. I particularly enjoyed the extended Kill Bill montages, the Inglorious Bastards segments (my favourite Tarantino film), and the way DJ Yoda gave certain moments their due by not over-mixing them – an example being the iconic dance scene between Uma Thurman and John Travolta in Pulp Fiction.
There was also a Samuel L Jackson segment that the crowd loved, and plenty of time spent on some of Tarantino’s lesser-known films, like Jackie Brown.
This was a really fun show that Tarantino and film fans are bound to love. Its run in Edinburgh was short and sweet, so hopefully you can catch it somewhere near you and enjoy a uniquely fun night of movie tributes.
